Two shooters involved in killing of Mumbai builder held in Varanasi

VARANASI: In a joint operation by the UPSTF and the crime branch unit of Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar police commissionerate (Mumbai), the two shooters who were absconding after killing a Mumbai-based builder on February 26 were arrested from Varanasi's Chaitaipur area on Tuesday.

According to STF, after getting clues regarding involvement of shooters from Varanasi in the killing of Samarjit alias Samay Chauhan, the crime branch unit of Mira Bayander Vasai Virar police sought its cooperation.

After collecting specific inputs, the joint team of STF Varanasi field unit and crime branch unit of Mira Bayander police raided a house in Anand Nagar Colony on Kandva Road under the limits of Chitaipur police station and arrested Rahul Sharma alias Ram of Sindhora and Abhishek Singh of Kapsethi.

The police recovered at least nine mobile phones and some identity proofs from their posession.

Following their arrest, the cops of crime branch unit of Mira Bayander police completed basic legal formalities at Chitaipur police station and district court to take the duo to Mumbai on a transit remand.

The STF said that Chauhan was shot dead in a daring broad day light near D Mart in Virar on February 26.

They said that when the CCTV footage of the incident was checked, it came to light that one Manish Singh alias Sonu, who was eliminated during exchange of firing with them here on March 21, and one more miscreant were involved in the killing.

Later, Rahul and Ankur confessed their involvement in the murder.

Regarding Rahul, the STF said that he had been sentenced life in the killing of Vijay Pujari alias Batta in 2013. However, he was absconding. In 2013, Rahul had opened fire on Ajil Sheikh in Mumbai while he murdered Bunty Pradhan near Pushpak Hotel in Mira Road area in 2015.
