Two seriously injured in major crash in New Brighton as man arrested

A man has been arrested after an horrific crash left a busy road closed for nine hours.

The 26-year-old is set to be questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

His arrest came as two people were taken to hospital with what Merseyside Police said were serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to New Brighton just before 9pm last night following reports of a crash on the junction of Victoria Road and Rowson Street.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene, where the crash between a Vauxhall Corsa and a Mercedes left debris scattered across the road.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the man who was arrested also required an assessment.

The road re-opened just before 6am on Monday.
