Police have launched an appeal for information following a serious road crash in Ayrshire which left two men hospitalised.

The crash took place on the A713 between Ayr and Hollybush in the early hours of yesterday morning.

At around 5.30am, a white coloured LDV Maxis van travelling towards Ayr and a white coloured Vauxhall Insignia car travelling south, away from Ayr, collided with one another on the A713, half a mile south of the B742.

The 50 year-old male driver of the van was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by helimed with serious injuries.

And the 47 year-old male driver of the car was taken to Ayr Hospital, also with serious injuries.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The road was closed for around eight hours whilst investigations were carried out.

Sergeant Craig Beaver, of Police Scotland's Road Policing Unit, said: “We are still trying to establish the circumstances surrounding these vehicles colliding and I am appealing for anyone who may have been driving on these roads early this morning who may have witnessed either vehicle involved to get in touch.

“You may also have captured vital information on dash-cam footage and we would ask you to look back and come forward with this.

"Anyone with any information should contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 0438 of Monday 12 August 2019.”
