Two men have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after an attack on the grounds of a Dublin prison.
The men, aged 20s and 40s, were attacked by a group on the grounds of Wheatfield Prison before a number of people were later arrested.
The group were arrested in a car nearby on Kennelsfort Road and are being detained in separate Dublin Garda Stations.
The car has been taken for forensic examination.
Gardai have appealed for witnesses, particularly those who may have dashcam footage of the Cloverhill Road between 2.30pm and 3.15pm today.
A spokesperson said: "Gardaí are investigating a serious assault that occurred on the Cloverhill Road, Clondalkin. The incident occurred shortly before 3pm today Wednesday 5th February 2020.
"A number of males allegedly assaulted two men on the grounds of Wheatfield Prison, Cloverhill Rd, Dublin 22. The injured males aged 20s and 40s were taken to Tallaght University Hospital by car, with serious injuries.
"Shortly after, a vehicle with a number of occupants on board, was stopped by Gardaí on the Kennelsfort road. A number of arrests were made at scene, and all individuals arrested, have been detained across Dublin Garda Stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
"The Scene has been cleared and the vehicle involved has been taken away for technical examination.
"Gardaí are appealing to anyone travelling in both directions on the Cloverhill road, between 2.30pm and 3.15pm to come forward. They are particularly appealing to road users with camera footage (including dashcam) to make it available to investigators at the incident room at Lucan Garda Station."
