Two seriously hurt as Yorkshire Air Ambulance called to charity motorbike ride crash in Bramham

A Yorkshire Air Ambulance was called to a crash at a charity motorbike ride being held to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Two people were seriously injured in the crash on the A1 in Bramham at 11.36am this morning (Sunday).

The crash happened during the Yorkshire Ride of Thanks, a fundraising event set up to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and other NHS and charity heroes of the pandemic.

The air ambulance from Yorkshire Ambulance Service landed at the A1 in Bramham on the edges of Leeds after being called out to the event, which saw as many as 300 motorbikes riding through Yorkshire.

Two people were taken to Leeds General Infirmary having suffered 'major trauma', according to Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

The Squires Yorkshire Ride of Thanks started at Squires Cafe Bar, a biker bar in Newthorpe Lane, Leeds, with the plan to ride out together through to Easingwold under the slogan 'Yorkshire Bikers Helping Yorkshire People'.

The event has a Facebook page here where people can get involved.

Everyone taking part was asked to donate before collecting their Yorkshire Air Ambulance badge.

The event's introduction adds: "Charity motorcycle event in 2021 to thank all those that contributed during the Covid 19 lockdown of 2020.

"This ride is to thank every single one of you who kept Britain moving during the lockdown."

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 11.36 to reports of a road traffic collision involving two motorbikes.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles, two ambulances, the hazardous area response team and the YAA. And we conveyed two patients to LGI and they went by land.

“They are both major trauma, one patient has head injuries and the other has spinal injuries.”
