Two sent home on Christmas Day after sneaking over border to climb Snowdon

A duo who travelled over the border to climb Snowdon on Christmas Day were sent home by police.

Officers stopped the car on the A5 this morning, which had travelled from a Tier 3 area of the UK.

The pair were said to have been visiting the area to climb Snowdon to “see the sunrise”.

Officers advised the pair accordingly to return home and they were reported for summons by the officer for breaching Coronavirus Wales Legislation, North Wales Live reports.

It means they will get the option of paying a fixed penalty ticket or opting for court.

A statement published on the North Wales Police Conwy Valley Facebook page today, says: “This morning PC3168 Coburn based at Llanrwst Police Station stopped a car on the A5 between Betws-Y-Coed and Capel Curig and found the two occupants were from a Tier 3 area of the UK.

“They informed the officer they had travelled to North Wales to climb Snowdon to see the sunrise.

“They were advised accordingly to return home after being reported for summons by the officers for breaching Coronavirus Wales Legislation.”

Special guidance for December 25 only means people can travel to see their Christmas bubble in Wales, depending on the rules of where they are travelling to.

People cannot travel to or from Scotland or Tier 4 areas in England.

Within Wales, if people are travelling away from home, they should travel to meet their Christmas bubble and return home within the course of December 25.

People cannot not stay overnight with other members of their Christmas bubble on Christmas Day, unless they are also part of their pre-existing support bubble.
