Two Scots restaurants named the best in UK in coveted TripAdvisor awards

Two Scottish restaurants have been picked out among the best in the UK, thanks to glowing customer reviews on TripAdvisor. Each year, the review website picks out the best restaurants and hotels around the world as part of its Travelers’ Choice Awards.

This year, in the fine dining restaurant category, which aims to celebrate "high-end dining that’ll impress your taste buds", top restaurants around the UK were curated into a top 10 based on the reviews given by the site's users in 2022.

Speaking about the awards, TripAdvisor posted: "This year, we made the most of every trip—big or small. We became experts on our neighborhood digs, masters of the outdoors, and explorers of the never-been-there and never-done-that. Through all the reviews, recs, and stories, we helped guide each other all over the world.

"Our Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best winners are decided by you: real travelers going, trying, and sharing your experiences.

"These are the best spots out there, according to, well, the best travelers out there."

The Gannet in Glasgow

First in the list representing Scotland is The Gannet in Glasgow, which placed 7th in the top 10. Based on Argyle Street in Scotland's biggest city has over 1,800 reviews on the site, with over 90% of those market good or excellent.

The modern Scottish fine dining restaurant, which was set up in 2013 by three friends Ivan Stein, Peter Read and Peter McKenna offers seasonal set menus featuring the "best wild and cultivated ingredients available from the Scottish larder".

One delighted customer wrote: "Completely lived up to (high) expectations. We were able to sit at our table a little earlier, received fantastic service and the food was delicious and original. Excellent atmosphere and we will definitely be back the next time we are in Glasgow."

While another added: "Could well be the best restaurant in Glasgow, certainly not been to a better one. Will definitely return."

Dean Banks at the Pompadour in Edinburgh

Placing in 9th was Dean Banks at the Pompadour in Edinburgh, with the top Scottish chef having opened the follow-up to his Three AA Rosette HAAR restaurant in St Andrews in 2021.

It has 204 reviews on the site, with over 190 of those marked excellent, which is pretty impressive in such a short space of time.

One delighted user wrote: "There is nothing that could have been done better. Thank you all for a wonderful experience. Each dish a masterpiece."

While another added: "From start to finish the food was absolutely wonderful, the matching wine was amongst the best we’ve had, brilliantly matched that added to the food experience. I’m struggling to put into words how unusual, thought-provoking while comforting the dishes were."
