Two schoolboys arrested after stabbing at beauty spot

Two boys have been arrested after a teenager was stabbed in the legs and arm as a large group of young people gathered at a beauty spot.

Merseyside Police received reports that the boy had been stabbed on Cubbins Green in Melloncroft Drive West, Caldy, at around 7.10pm last night (Friday) after he was assaulted by a group of boys. The force said around 100 youths were in the area at the time of the incident, as part of what bystanders described as an end of exams celebration.

The suspects left Cubbins Greens after the incident, and the victim was taken to hospital with stab wounds to his legs and arm, where he remains in a stable condition. Detectives say CCTV footage and videos of the incident show that the victim was assaulted by three boys, including one who was carrying a knife.

Today two boys, aged 15 and 16 from Moreton and Liscard, have been arrested on suspicion of assault. They have been taken to a police station in Merseyside and remain in custody.

Detectives are appealing for more information to find the outstanding third suspect, who the force confirmed is believed to be the knifeman. Increased police patrols remain in the area.

Police also said a Dispersal Zone is also in place in West Kirby today (Saturday June 17) in response to "an increase in reports of criminal and anti-social behaviour in the area". The order runs from this afternoon and will last for 48 hours, until 12.26pm on Monday June 19.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “Although we have made two arrests our officers are still searching for a teenage boy who was involved in the attack on a boy who suffered several stab wounds to his legs and arm.

“Officers who were at the scene last night saw up to a 100 youths in the area who could have seen the attack. If you were on Cubbins Green and saw the incident or have captured the attack on your phone please contact police immediately.

“Information from the public is vital if we are to stop any young people carrying knives in our community that causes violence on our streets. Such behaviour is reckless, unacceptable and destroys lives.

"Our officers remain in the area to reassure residents and are committed to removing anyone who stores, carries and uses weapons in our community through proactive use of stop and search powers, open land searches, warrants and education work alongside partners at schools in Wirral.”
