Two University of Salford students have been evicted from their accommodation for breaching coronavirus rules.
A university spokesperson confirmed the students left their on-campus housing last week.
They called the move a “last resort in order to protect others”.
The students are currently being supported in finding alternative accommodation.
A University of Salford spokesperson said: “We can confirm that last week two students left our on-campus accommodation, which is provided by Campus Living Villages, as a result of repeated Covid breaches.
“Ensuring the safety of our community is our priority and whilst removing these two students was an action of last resort, it was essential in order to protect others. The majority of our students have behaved impeccably throughout this very challenging year.
“The University’s askUS team provided support and guidance to the two students throughout the process and actively worked with them to secure alternative accommodation.”
During an Andy Burnham coronavirus press conference earlier today, Beverley Hughes, deputy mayor of Greater Manchester, said: “We’ve had students evicted from their campus accommodation at Salford university in breach of regulations.
“This is been circulated around to the other students.”
