Two rushed to hospital after horror crash on Shawhead flyover near M8 at Bellshill

Two people have been rushed to hospital after a crash between a lorry and car in Lanarkshire.

Emergency service crews raced to the A725 on the Shawhead Flyover near the M8 at Bellshill.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called at around 12.35pm with part of the road shut off.

A woman was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital Monklands while a man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Around 12.35pm on Thursday, 10 September, 2020, we received a report of a serious crash involving a car and a lorry on the Shawhead Flyover at North Road in Bellshill.

“Emergency services attended and a woman was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Monklands and a man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 1319 of 10 September, 2020."

The crash resulted in tailbacks in the area.
