Two rushed to hospital after blaze rips through Glasgow tenement

Two people have been taken to hospital and several were evacuated following a fire at a city tenement.

Five fire engines were sent to the scene in Allison Street, , when the alarm was raised at 10.24pm on .

Firefighters put out the blaze which had taken hold in a ground-floor flat and a number of residents were then evacuated from the four-storey building, which had been affected by heavy smoke.

Twelve people were assessed by ambulance crews at the scene and two people were then taken to to be treated for slight .

Allison Street was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 10.24pm on Tuesday, October 1 to reports of a dwelling fire.

“Operations Control mobilised a total of five fire appliances to Alliston Street in Glasgow and crews extinguished the fire which had taken hold within the ground floor flat.

“A number of occupants were thereafter evacuated from the four-storey building which had been affected by heavy smoke.

“A total of 12 casualties were assessed by ambulance crews at the scene and two people were subsequently taken to hospital for treatment for slight smoke inhalation.

“Crews left the scene after making the area safe.”
