Two restaurants in Newport's Friars Walk confirm they will be reopening

Two restaurants in Newport' s Friars Walk shopping centre have confirmed they will be reopening their doors in the coming weeks.

Both Nando's and Prezzo have announced they will both be reopening in the near future, providing a welcome boost for the shopping centre which has been hit with a number of high-profile closures recently.

The Nando's a Spytty Retail Park reopened earlier this year, while the Friars Walk branch remained closed.

Both Friars Walk eateries remained shut throughout the government's Eat Out to Help Out Scheme in August, prompting fears from some other traders that they would be joining the likes of Flying Tiger and The Body Shop in leaving the centre this year.

But the news of both restaurants reopening will be welcome given the recent issues facing the hospitality industry, with Newport having lost a number of restaurants this year.

A spokesperson for Nando's confirmed its Friars Walk outlet would be reopening.

"I can confirm that Newport Friars walk is due to reopen in a couple of weeks. I can’t confirm the exact date yet but we are planning to reopen the restaurant," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Prezzo, which recently appointed a professional services firm, FRP Advisory, to lead an auction of the company, confirmed it had no plans to close restaurants, including its Friars Walk outlet.

"We have restaurants opening on a weekly basis across the country. We do not yet have a date for the Newport restaurant, but we will be in touch when we do," a spokesperson for Prezzo said.

"At the moment there are no plans to close restaurants permanently."
