Two republican groups stop traffic on O'Connell Street as they hold Easter Rising commemorations

Two republican groups stopped traffic on the capital's main street as they held Easter Rising commemorations.

The groups, 32 County Sovereignty Movement and Republican Sinn Fein, launched their events separately in Dublin city centre.

The first event was with the 32 CSM when between 70 and 80 people, including children marched from the Garden of Remembrance to the GPO on O'Connell Street.

Dublin Live observed as the event, led by a colour party dressed in green jackets, black trousers and green berets, blocked traffic on their parade.

They were joined by the Parkhead Republican Flute Band.

They gave a short oration at the GPO and then marched, along Henry Street, to Arbour Hill.

The 32 CSM is seen as the political wing of the Real IRA and has been declared a terror organisation by the United States.

The second parade, of Republican Sinn Fein, took place shortly after 1.45pm and again traffic was brought to a standstill for 47 marchers.

They were led by a colour party in full military dress, including berets and dark sun glasses.

A short speech was held at the GPO and included members from Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

The group has links to the Continuity IRA who have carried out a number of murders.

For each parade members of the Special Detective Unit kept watch and observed.

Uniformed gardai assisted with traffic and managed congestion.
