(Reuters) - Rangers directors Paul Murray and Barry Scott have resigned from their roles at the Glasgow club, the Scottish Premiership side said in a statement on Wednesday.

The announcement comes the day after manager Graeme Murty was sacked with former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard confirming on Tuesday that he had held initial talks to become Rangers' new boss.

Murray had been a director at the club since 2015 while Scott was a more recent appointment.

Assistant coaches Jimmy Nicholl and Jonatan Johansson have been put in charge of Rangers, who are third in the standings, for their three remaining matches of the campaign.
