Two Queanbeyan childcare centres closed due to COVID-19 exposure

Two Queanbeyan childcare centres have been closed due to positive COVID-19 test results, adding to concerns there is a COVID-19 outbreak in the region.

KU Queanbeyan South childcare centre and Harris Park Preschool have been exposed to positive COVID-19 cases, letters confirm.

The news follows confirmation two Queanbeyan public schools were closed due to exposure from positive COVID-19 cases.

It is understood by The Canberra Times that some Queanbeyan residents are concerned they are not being notified of positive COVID-19 cases in the area.

As of Saturday morning, October 30, the NSW Health website had not listed any venues in Queanbeyan as exposure sites.

There are no COVID-19 case locations listed on NSW Health with the postcode of Queanbeyan 2620.

MORE COVID NEWS:

A letter from October 25 to families with children at KU Queanbeyan South indicated the centre had closed on October 24 following orders by NSW Health. The letter said the centre was required to remain shut until Wednesday, November 5.

"Today we have been contacted by the families of several children who attended the service last week, that they too have been advised of positive COVID test results," the letter by CEO Christine Legg said.

"At this stage, the service will remain closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The closure may be further extended subject to NSW Health advice."

A letter from October 26 advised parents of children at Harris Park Preschool a positive COVID-19 child had attended school on two days.

IN OTHER COVID NEWS:

The child attended on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22. The letter advised families of any children at the school on those dates to get tested and self-isolate.

"Due to our staff requiring to comply with the above, we would ask all families with children in attendance today (Tuesday 26th October) to collect their children ASAP," the letter by QDPA Managing Director Nicky McCarthy said.

The letter said the centre would be closed for an indeterminate time, as determined by NSW Health.
