Two pubs forced to close for up to a fortnight in Carmarthenshire for coronavirus rules breaches

Two pubs in Carmarthenshire have been served with closure notices for breaching coronavirus regulations.

Both the Greenfield Inn, in Llanelli, and the Wheaten Sheaf, in the village of Abergwili, were forced to close after council enforcement officers visited them at the weekend and decided that they were not complying with Covid-19 rules.

They are the latest in a long list of businesses across the county that have had to shut since the pandemic began earlier in the year. You can see the entire list here.

Regulations that venues are expected to adhere to include social distancing, ensuring customers are wearing masks, correctly filling out track and trace requirements, sticking to the 10pm curfew, and having enough staff.

Carmarthenshire Council enforcement officers visited the Greenfield Inn, in Erw Road, and the Wheaten Sheaf, in High Street, on Sunday, November 29.

Both pubs have been ordered to close until Sunday, December 13.

They will have to shut until their notices are up or risk being handed a £1,000 fine, which could increase if they have already received one or more fixed penalty notices, if they fail to comply.

Today First Minister Mark Drakeford announced that from Friday, December 4, all pubs will be barred from selling alcohol and must shut at 6pm.

Some premises have been allowed to re-open early if necessary improvements have been made and council enforcement officers agree to it.

Back in September, The South Star in Llanelli, and both Llangennech and Felinfoel rugby clubs, which were all handed 14-day closure notices, were allowed to re-open early after improvements were made.
