Two PSNI officers injured after wanted man throws flower pots at them

Two police officers have been injured whilst apprehending a man wanted for a 'host of offences'.

The incident happened on Thursday afternoon in Coalisland, Co Tyrone when officers from Mid Ulster District Support Team (DST) spotted a wanted male in the town.

As officers gave chase, the man fled into a house and through a window, across a roof and into nearby gardens before throwing flower pots at police in pursuit, injuring one officer on the head.

Another officer sustained a leg injury during the incident, which crews say someone likened to a scene from a 'Lethal Weapon movie'.

Explaining the incident, a PSNI Dungannon & South Tyrone officer said: "DST crews spotted a wanted male in Coalisland, eyes locked, he bailed and ran, (waste of time running - DST is full of Usain wannabes).

"Runs into a house, crews close in, he’s all set to go out the window but spots more cops, out another window and onto a roof, across the roofs and into gardens. Being closed down all the time he realises he’s not escaping so resorts to throwing flower pots at the officers in pursuit.

Man attacked with pick axe handles and sledgehammer by masked men

"Despite one taking a pot to the head and another sustaining leg injuries officers restrain and arrest him.

"He’s now in the cells for a whole host of offences and Coalisland is a safer place as a result. Great work by local residents in assisting us in catching this guy. The teamwork bit is the most satisfying side of it.

"The officer who took the pot to the head was patched up in hospital and returned to duty to complete the arrest paperwork, the officer who sustained the leg injuries is still in hospital receiving treatment. DST 1 Fugitive 0."
