Two popular Dublin adventure businesses forces to scale back services due to 'astronomical' hike in insurance quotes

Two popular Dublin adventure businesses have this week had to scale back their activities due to the huge surge in the cost of Insurance.

Fort Lucan Adventureland and Fingal Adventure Centre have both said they had "no choice" but to make some changes as the rising costs have made it too difficult to continue.

In Lucan, one of the most popular adventure playgrounds in the country had to remove two of its trampolines after the massive price hike.

Meanwhile in the north county, Fingal Adventure Centre has announced that it can no longer operate from the North Beach in Rush .

The popular adventure centre, which provides a huge range of land and water activities, is hopeful it will still be able to operate water sports from its Malahide Centre as negotiations are ongoing.

They said: "It's with a very heavy heart that we have to announce that we will not be operating on North Beach this season.

"The astronomical insurance we have been quoted leaves us no choice but to cease operating on North Beach.

"Thank you to a great community and for all your support."

Fort Lucan meanwhile said it was a "very sad day" as they were "left with no choice".

Their general manager Gillian Martin Smith said that their premium had doubled since 2015.

She told The Journal: “We were going to try and fight it to get them insured under the normal premium but the way insurance has gone in this country there’s no point.

"We're going to replace them with something bigger, better and fantastic next year.”

She said that the trampolines were always supervised and only one child was allowed on them at a time.

She also said they had no claims related to the trampolines in recent years.
