Two popular Corrie stars almost left the soap to star in their own show

Two popular Coronation Street stars almost left the soap.

Sally Dynevor, who has played Weatherfield's Sally since 1986, has revealed that she and former on-screen husband Kevin Webster, played by Michael Le Vell, were previously set to leave the cobbles.

Corrie over the years may have been very different as ex-producer Terry Wood almost got the characters to leave Coronation Street and star in their own programme.

Talking on the Soap From The Box podcast, Sally said: "There was talk of it. Tony Wood came up with the idea that we should leave the show and set up a new show.

"I'm so glad we didn't. If it hadn't gone very well, where would we be now?"

Speaking about the important of Sally and Kevin's continued relationship on the show, the actress added: "Michael and I are very close and Sally and Kevin were married for 25 years.

"They were happy for most of those years, so I love the fact the writers have made Sally still concerned about Kevin and vice versa."

Sally has been in Corrie for the last 35 years and has recently been awarded an MBE for services to drama in the Queen's New Year's honours.
