Two police officers seriously injured while responding to 999 call discharged from hospital

Two police officers have been discharged from hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a crash with another car.

Gwent Police said the officers were responding to a 999 call when they were involved in a crash on Chepstow Road, Newport, at about 2pm on Sunday.

The two male officers were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, while the male driver of the other car sustained minor injuries.

A police spokeswoman said all three individuals were discharged from hospital on Sunday evening.

A pedestrian, who was injured by debris when the garden wall of a residential property was damaged, is also expected to be discharged on Monday.

Chepstow Road was closed between Carisbrooke Road and the junction of Blenheim Road for several hours on Sunday while emergency services attended the scene.

Gwent Police is continuing to appeal for any witnesses of the incident, or those with dash cam footage, to come forward.
