Two planes have near-miss while approaching JFK airport

  • Two planes had a near miss while approaching New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday, 20 April.
  • Republic Airways Flight 4464 performed a 'go-around' and deviated from its intended approach path.
  • The Republic Airways plane flew within 350 feet of Jazz Aviation Flight 554, which was also preparing to land.
  • Audio from air traffic control confirms communication between the tower and the pilots to avoid the close call.
  • The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Tuesday, 21 April, that it is investigating the incident.
