Two Pints of Lager creator confirms hit series will return with BBC talks ongoing

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps creator Susan Nickson has confirmed the hugely popular comedy series is set to make a return to television.

The hit series originally ran from 2001 to 2011 and Susan has admitted that she is in talks with the BBC about it's return.

Speaking on the Drama School Dropout podcast, Susan confessed that while the BBC are keen for the reboot to happen, she's not sure when it will take place.

But she revealed that both Will Mellor and Ralf Little, who play Gaz and Jonny respectively, are keen to work on a new series and are currently waiting for the BBC to give it the official go ahead.

Susan said: "We are talking to the BBC. They are a corporation and in a corporation there are many cogs and those cogs move extremely slowly.

"So basically what you've got, it's me, Will, Ralf and all three of us are just going 'yeah, we're here, we'll do it' and the BBC are going 'ah brilliant, yeah let's do it' and I'm sort of sat here going 'ok, when?' and they go 'well, we don't know'.

"So, what we've got is a corporation that has no idea."

The revelation comes after Susan penned a short sketch to mark 20 years of the series in February. In it, Gaz received a call from Jonny who he previously thought was dead.

Talking about how she sees the series panning out, she said: "I would like to pick up the story with two ageing working-class geezers in a pub combating the terrible things that we say about men at the moment. Some men might not understand that the bad guys exist.

"I want to see the comforting story of people like Gaz and Jonny, who live in a world where bad guys don’t exist. I want them to acknowledge the bad guys are out there though, but I don’t want Gaz and Jonny to be them."

She did admit though that she wasn't sure whether the girls from the show - Sheridan Smith, Kathryn Drysdale and Natalie Casey - would be involved in the project.

Will had also previously revealed that he hadn't spoken to former co-star Sheridan in over four years.

"I've not seen Sheridan or spoke to Sheridan in four years. I rang her for a while and just nothing, so I don't know her any more.

"I wish her all the best, but she hasn't called me in years."
