Two pilots were forced to eject themselves from a military jet as their plane crashed into homes in Texas during a routine exercise accident.
The T-45C Goshawk jet trainer crashed at around 11.15am on Sunday morning between the 4000 blocks of Tejas and Dakota in Lake Worth, Texas.
The jet's pilot and a student pilot got into difficulty when conducting a routine training flight, with the pair forced to hit eject before the crash, The Sun reported.
It is understood one of their parachutes got tangled in overhead powerlines, causing widespread power outages in the local area.
The other pilot was found close by, according to Lake Worth Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian.
Both transported to hospital, where one of them is said to be in a stable condition.
The US Navy confirmed the student pilot is alive and receiving treatment, but his current condition has not been announced.
The smash has led to residents in up to the six homes that were hit to be displaced, with some assisted by the Red Cross, but amazingly no injuries were reported.
Smoke had been seen billowing from behind the houses in the area.
The U.S. Navy identified the plane and said it had been conducting a routine training flight after taking off from Corpus Christi International Airport.
While the cause of the crash remains unknown, the US Navy and other investigative teams are helping the investigation, while a safety team is set to inspect the damage.
The power outages are expected to last for several days and three people have been treated and released at the scene.
Lake Worth Fire Chief Ryan Arthur said it "could have been much worse", although up to 70 residents are believed to have been affected by the crash while several homes received minor damage, although none of them were hit directly.
