Two people who died in M8 crash at Charing Cross named by police

Two people who tragically died in a crash on the M8 motorway this weekend have been named by police.

David Campbell, 54, and Allison Campbell, 51, sadly lost their lives following Sunday's incident at Charing Cross.

The crash happened around 2.40pm yesterday on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 road, near to Junction 17 in Glasgow, when a white coloured BMW 1 car collided with a crash barrier and caught fire.

Both David and Allison were pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed to allow for a full collision investigation to be conducted and police are appealing to witnesses for any information.

Police Scotland on Monday night released statement which advised: "Police Scotland can confirm the names of the two people who died when the BMW car in which they were traveling crashed on the M8 motorway in Glasgow on Sunday, 18 October.

"They were David Campbell (54) and Allison Campbell (51)."

Sergeant John Bradford from Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, commented: “Our thoughts remain with David and Allison’s family at this sad time. I would ask that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

“Our investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash or have any information that could assist with our enquiries to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information should contact Police Scotland on the 101 number, quoting incident 2002 of 18 October.”
