Two people transferred to hospital after being rescued from Belfast Harbour

Two people have been winched from the water and taken to hospital after being rescued from Belfast Harbour.

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) confirmed that they were called to deal with an incident on Thursday evening.

A spokesperson for the NIAS said that multiple units were deployed to the harbour just before 7pm.

The HM Coastguard and RNLI refused to comment but it is understood that a rescue helicopter was involved in the rescue mission.

The spokesperson said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a call at 18:53 following reports that two people were in the water at Belfast Harbour.

"NIAS dispatched two rapid response paramedics, two emergency crews and three HART officiers.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one male was taken to the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children and one take to Royal Victoria Hospital's Emergency Department."

There are no further details at this stage.
