Two people taken to hospital following multi-vehicle crash on A19

Two people have been rushed to hospital following a multi-vehicle crash.

The collision happened on the A19 southbound near the Elwick/Dalton Piercy turn off near Hartlepool at around 4:40pm.

The crash involved three vehicles and emergency services were called to the scene.

Two women were taken to North Tyneside Hospital, one suffering from chest injuries and the other had abdominal injuries.

As a result of the accident, there were traffic delays of up to half an hour.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 4:40pm today after reports of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 southbound.

"Two paramedic crews were dispatched and there were three patients in total.

"Two women were taken to North Tyneside Hospital. One with chest injuries. One with abdominal injuries.'
