Two people taken to hospital following collision on the A197 near Pegswood in Northumberland

Two people have been taken to hospital following a collision in Northumberland on Monday morning.

Shortly after 7.45am, emergency services received reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A197 Morpeth Road. The road remained closed in both directions between Front Street, Pegswood, and the Guidepost turn off while police and ambulance crews attended the scene.

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) confirmed that two paramedic crews and a clinical team leader were despatched to the collision site, where two patients - one person from each car - were treated for head and body injuries.

Both patients were then taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

A spokesman for North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 07.47 to attend a road traffic collision involving two cars on the A197 near Morpeth.

"We dispatched two paramedic crews and a clinical team leader, who treated two patients - one from each car - for head and body injuries before taking them both to Northumbria Hospital."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 7.45am today (Monday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the A197 near Pegswood.

"The road has since reopened."
