Casualty airlifted to hospital after fire destroys large garage in Gower village leaving two hurt

Two people were taken to hospital, one by air ambulance, after a fire at a large garage in Gower. Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service confirmed it was called to reports of a garage on fire in Horton, Swansea, on Tuesday, March 14.

The incident happened at around 5:12pm and crews from Reynoldston, Swansea West, Swansea Central, Gorseinon and Tumble attended. On arrival crews found a detached garage, consisting of two floors, "well alight." Crews battled the blaze for over two hours before withdrawing.

A spokesperson for Mid & West Wales Fire & Rescue Service said: "At 5.12pm on Tuesday, March 14th, crews from Reynoldston, Swansea West, Swansea Central, Gorseinon and Tumble were called to an incident in Horton, Swansea, following reports of a garage on fire.

"On arrival, crews found a detached garage, measuring approximately 50x10m consisting of two floors well alight. Crews extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and one 45m jet. Once extinguished the crews continued to dampen down, the building was severely damaged by the fire. Two casualties were conveyed to hospital.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called yesterday (14 March) shortly before 5:15pm to reports of a fire in Horton, Swansea. We sent two rapid response vehicles, one emergency ambulance and a duty operational manager to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance. One person was taken by road to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, and another was flown to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.”
