Two people taken to hospital after crash in Prestwich

Two people were rushed to hospital following a crash in Prestwich which shut a main road for three hours.

All three emergency services were called to Bury New Road in Prestwich at around 7.30pm on Thursday evening to reports of a crash involving two vehicles.

Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were dispatched to the road, North West Ambulance Service has said, with paramedics treating four people in the wake of the collision.

Firefighters had to help a man from one of the vehicles, while another man managed to get himself out of a second vehicle, according to the fire and rescue service.

Two pedestrians - a man and a woman - were then taken to hospital, Greater Manchester Police has confirmed, though their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was taped off for three hours while police carried out enquiries and the scene was cleared.

GMP said: "Police were called to Bury New Road, Prestwich, at about 7.30pm on Thursday 25 March 2021 to reports of a road traffic collision between two vehicles.

"Two pedestrians - a male and a female - were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"There were no other injuries and the road was re-opened at 10.40pm."

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) spokesperson added: “Two fire engines from Broughton and Whitefield stations arrived quickly at the scene.
