Two people taken to hospital after collision in North Shields

Two people have been taken to hospital after a collision in North Shields.

Emergency services were called to a crash on Wallsend Road at around 2pm on Sunday.

The incident involved three adults and two children, with one person taken to hospital with head injuries and another with chest pains.

A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic collision involving three adults and two children in two separate cars.

"We took one patient to hospital with head injuries and another had chest pains.

"They were taken to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital."

Northumbria Police said the road was closed following the incident.

A force spokesman said: “Police, fire and ambulance were called and the road was closed for a short period of time."

Fire crews from Wallsend and Tynemouth were called to the incident.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were restricted to making the vehicles safe.

"We attempted to start first aid but the ambulances arrived quickly.

“We were called at 2.01pm and sent an appliance from Wallsend and one from Tynemouth.”
