Two people struck by car in Edinburgh as cops race to scene

Emergency services have raced to an Edinburgh street after two people were hit by a car.

Fire, ambulance and police crews have been seen at Pennywell Street after the serious crash at around 3.15pm.

A male and a female were hit by the vehicle and one has been rushed to hospital after the collision while the second was treated at the scene.

The road is currently closed as investigations take place.

Pictures from the scene show a huge emergency services presence with someone being taken from the area on a stretcher by paramedics.

A silver Mercades, with damage to the hood, has also been spotted and buses have been diverted from the street while the probe takes place.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We received a report of a road traffic crash involving a car and two pedestrians, a male and a female, on Pennywell Road, Edinburgh, around 3.15pm on Wednesday, 7 October, 2020.

"Officers and the ambulance service in attendance and the road is currently closed."

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 15.10 hours on Wednesday 7 October to attend an incident on Pennywell Road in Edinburgh.

"Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was taken to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh for further treatment.”
