Man rescued from the River Leven near Dumbarton High Street

Emergency services raced to the River Leven in Dumbarton this morning, after a man jumped into the River Leven.

Police were called to reports of concerns for a person at around 10.20am, with the individual entering the Leven behind Dumbarton High Street around an hour later.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the man climbed aboard a boat in the Leven, before being rescued by emergency teams.

Coastguard crews from Helensburgh and Greenock and the RNLI Rescue Boat helped recover the individual.

A Police spokesperson told the Lennox: "We were initially made aware of concern for a person in the area of Dumbarton High Street around 10.15am on Wednesday, 10 November and the man subsequently entered the River Leven close by.

“He has since been rescued safely with the assistance of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and RNLI and is being treated by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard received a 999 call at 11.32am today (November 17) reporting two people in the water after a vessel capsized.

"Coastguard rescue teams from Helensburgh and Greenock were sent, along with an RNLI lifeboat from Helensburgh and the people were recovered safe and well."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.23am on Wednesday, November 17 to assist emergency service partners at an incident near Woodyard Road, Dumbarton.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances and two water rescue teams to assist at the scene."

An eyewitness told the Lennox: "Someone was in the water behind the High Street and was then standing on a jetty in the middle of the Leven, screaming his lungs off.

"Police, fire and the coastguard were all around the water."
