Two people rescued from lift in Bristol and chip pan fire extinguished

Two people had to be rescued from a lift in the centre of Bristol on Monday.

Firefighters had been called to Corn Street in the city centre at around 3.30pm after reports that people were trapped.

The crew managed to rescue the two people and make the lift safe.

A spokesman said: "Crews from Temple fire station were called to reports of persons trapped in a lift.

"On arrival, firefighters successfully rescued two persons from the lift and the lift has since been isolated."

Also on Monday, firefighters were called to a chip pan fire in Hatcliffe - having to use breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

Crews from Bedminster and Temple were called to the scene at around 5pm..

The cause of the fire has been determined as accidental.

Firefighters visited local properties in the area to give safety advice following the incident.

Top tips for chip pan cooking:

  • Only fry dry food
  • If the oil smokes, turn off the heat and leave it to cool
  • Use a thermostatically controlled deep fat fryer. They can't overheat
