Two people left trapped after large granite boulders fall on them in Cornish village

Two large granite boulders have fallen on top of two people in a village in Cornwall.

The pair were trapped underneath the rocks in Madron this afternoon, not far from Penzance.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, including fire crews from St Just, Tolvaddon and Penzance, Cornwall Live reported.

The trapped people were released from underneath the rocks by fire fighters were used specialist equipment to lift the boulders.

The air ambulance was called Madron (Greg Martin / Cornwall Live)

They then received care from West Country Ambulance paramedics.

Their condition is not currently known

A spokesperson from the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Critical control received a call from ambulance requesting our attendance to assist their crews in removing large granite boulders that had fallen on top of two persons .

"Crews from St Just, Tolvaddon, Penzance supported by a flexi duty officer attended. Crews used crash rescue and specialist lifting equipment to release the persons.

"Once released the persons were handed over to West Country Ambulance. This is all the information we have at this time."

Madron has a population of slightly over 1,500 people.

A short distance outside the village lies the Men-An-Tol stone circle, which is thought to have been a place of ritual in the Bronze Age.

Children suffering from rickets used to be passed through a large hole in one of the stones.
