Police have charged a man with two counts of death by dangerous driving over a crash that claimed the lives of two people in South Australia's south-east yesterday.
The crash happened on Lucindale Road, approximately 25 kilometres west of Naracoorte, just before 12:45pm on Tuesday.
The collision sparked a fire which incinerated both vehicles.
Late last night, police confirmed a 60-year-old man who was driving the SUV and a 49-year-old woman who was a passenger died at the scene.
Both were from Kingston SE.
The driver of the van, a 35-year-old Naracoorte man, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Naracoorte Hospital.
He was charged today with two counts of death by dangerous driving and is expected to appear in the Naracoorte Magistrates Court on May 10.
The deaths take the state's road toll to 24, compared to 15 at the same time last year.
Head-on crash at McLaren Vale
It was not the only serious accident on South Australia's roads yesterday, with a driver arrested over a crash between a truck and a car at McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide.
The head-on crash happened at the intersection of Seaview Road and Victor Harbor Road.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9:30pm.
A 50-year-old McCracken woman who was driving the sedan remains in a critical condition in hospital.
The truck driver, a 22-year-old Findon man, was not injured but has been charged with offences including drink-driving.
Victor Harbor Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
