Two people killed and two more rushed to hospital after three-car crash in Dunleer

Two people have been killed and two more injured after a horror three car crash in Louth.

The heartbreaking incident happened on the Ardee road link, just off the M1 at Richardstown, Dunleer.

A man, aged in his 50s, died after his car collided with a second vehicle shortly after 8am.

The driver of the second car, a man in his 30s, was also killed in the tragic incident.

Both of their bodies were removed to the Mortuary in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post mortem will take place.

A passenger in the second car was rushed to the same hospital, where they are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of a third car involved in the collision was also brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Garda Forensic Collision investigators are currently at scene, while the road is closed to traffic. Local diversions are in place.

Speaking after the tragic incident, a garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí in Drogheda are appealing for any witnesses or for anyone with information to come forward.

"They are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the M1, or on the Ardee Link Road at Richardstown this morning, to make this footage available to Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 9874200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
