Two people injured in 'crossbow attacks' in Shoreditch as police investigate possible link

A man has been wounded by a suspected crossbow attack in Shoreditch just ten days after a woman was injured in a similar incident nearby.

Police were scrambled to Arnold Circus at just before 7.30pm on Thursday.

They discovered a man aged in his 20s with a neck injury.

He was taken to hospital with medics assessing that his wounds are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Police are working on the theory that the victim had been hit by a crossbow bolt.

The attack came after a woman was injured in similar circumstances in nearby Club Row on 4 March.

Police found the victim, who is in her 40s, injured outside Clifton House.

Her wounds were not life threatening or life-changing.

Police are investigating any links between the attacks. No arrests have been made.

An office worker said: “There were police and ambulances everywhere. It’s really scary to think that something so potentially deadly could happen near our work and twice now. We are all a bit frightened even though the police tried to reassure us. It seems random, its a wacky thing to happen.”

A local has put up handwritten poster claiming the injured woman was hit in the head on her way home from work and expressing fears it could happen again.

A poster has been left near the scene expressing community concerns over the attacks. (supplied)

A police statement on the latest incident said: “We were called at 19:27hrs on Thursday, 14 March to reports of a man found injured in Arnold Circus, E2.“Officers responded and were on the scene within two minutes. They found a man in his 20s with a neck injury.“He was taken to hospital where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.Initial enquiries suggest the man may have been struck by a crossbow dart.” Scotland Yard also confirmed a woman had also been attacked and that inquiries were ongoing.

Witnesses to the incident on Thursday are asked to call 101 quoting reference CAD 6663/14Mar.

Anyone with information about the incident on March 4 is asked to use CAD 6552/04Mar.
