Two people in hospital after multi-vehicle crash on M49

Two people were rushed to hospital after two lorries and a car collided on the M49.

Firefighters had to cut free a man, aged in his 60s, from a vehicle following the crash.

The motorway, which connects traffic from the M5 to the M4, was closed in both directions for almost an hour while emergency crews dealt with the smash, which happened yesterday (Monday, August 19) at around 3pm.

Crews from Avonmouth,  Kingswood, Temple and Portishead fire stations attended the accident.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, firefighters found five casualties had already been rescued and were in the hands of ambulance crews. 

"Crews remained on scene rescue one male casualty in his 60s using hydraulic and stabilisation equipment. 

"Two casualties were conveyed to hospital via ambulance.

"Police and Highways England were also in attendance. "
