Two people in hospital after armed police close off Swansea street

Two people have been taken to hospital after armed police were called to a Swansea street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers went to a house in Heol Cadifor in the Penlan area of the city at around 4.40am following reports of an assault.

South Wales Police said “distraction devices” were used at the house in order to prevent a man from harm and the road was closed for around four hours.

An eye-witness called the operation a “major incident” which saw a house on Heol Cadifor surrounded by police before officers entered with the aid of “flash bangs and gas”.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident, but a man and a woman have been taken to hospital.

A police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of an assault and a concern for welfare in Heol Cadifor, Penlan at about 4.40am this morning (Saturday).

“The road was closed for some time and a number of police units were in attendance.

“In order to prevent a man from harm officers deployed two distraction devices to enter the property safely.

“A man and woman have both been taken to hospital and the road was re-opened at around 8.55am.”
