Two people hurt in car crashes and a police chase in Aberdare

Two people have been injured by cars in the space of two hours in Aberdare .

The two incidents are not believed to be related.

The first happened at 1.30 today after a BMW car failed to stop for police officers in Cwmbach Road.

Following this the BMW collided with with a stationary Peugeot.

A 78-year-old man, who was in the Peugeot car, suffered minor injuries.

According to South Wales Police "shortly prior to the collision a police pursuit was authorised".

A 42-year-old man from Aberdare has been arrested and is in police custody.

In an unrelated incident, officers also attended a crash on Dean Street in Aberdare, at around 3.25pm involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

According to South Wales Police the man was in his 70s and was taken to Prince Charles Hospital for treatment.

Christine Jenkins works at Joe’s Cafe on Whitcombe Street.

“There were two police cars and one rapid response. Then the ambulance came after that.

“I would say (they arrived) about half three and were there for over an hour.

“An old gentleman was knocked over.

“He’s a regular customer of ours. He comes in a few afternoons.”
