Two senior citizens were injured, one fatally, after the pair was found unresponsive inside an apartment Tuesday in Schorsch Village on the Northwest Side.
Police initially said high levels of carbon monoxide contributed to the death of the 76-year-old woman, identified as Sandra Perez by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
But Wednesday morning, police said carbon monoxide was not considered a factor.
Autopsy results are expected to be released Wednesday afternoon.
An 80-year-old man was also listed in critical condition after authorities responded to the home about 9 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
Crews found the pair unresponsive with no signs of trauma in a second-floor apartment in the 6700 block of West Belmont Avenue.
They were taken to Community First Hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead.
