Two bodies have been discovered after a Christmas day fire ripped through a remote farmhouse..
The blaze near the Sussex village of West Chiltington is thought to have started on Christmas Day but emergency services only alerted to it this morning.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called early on Boxing Day to the 'significant fire' at the house in Harbolets Road at around 9.10am.
The Daily Mirror reports that Sussex Police are investigating the inferno which has since been put out by firefighters.
Sadly, two occupants perished in the fire.
A spokesman for the police said: “Emergency services received a report of a significant fire at a residential property in Harbolets Road, West Chiltington, at 9.10am this morning (Saturday 26 December).
“Fire engines from the local area arrived quickly at the scene, and a section of the road has been closed as emergency services continue to work together. The fire has since been extinguished.
“Two people have sadly been confirmed deceased at the scene. We have no further information at this stage.”
The building is still being investigated to make sure it is safe and to make sure there is no-one else inside.
West Sussex Fire and Sussex Police said: “Two people have sadly been confirmed deceased at the scene.
“Police are still actively liaising with the fire service to ensure the building is safe and to determine if any other persons are present, and a joint investigation will take place to ascertain the cause of the fire.
“We have no further information at this stage.”
