Two people charged after major joint AFP-Tasmania Police raids in Dover

Two people have been charged after a major Australian Federal Police and Tasmania Police operation in Dover on Wednesday.

Witnesses told the ABC plain-clothes police raided a business in the town's main shopping centre, on Station Road, about 9:15am.

Police searched an address in Dover, in the state's south, as well as a number of fishing vessels on the marina.

A 44-year-old man was charged with operating a commercial fishing boat without a licence, omitting information so as to make a statement misleading, making a false statement with intent to cause a loss to the Commonwealth, and providing support to a criminal organisation.

He appeared in the Magistrates Court in Hobart this afternoon and was denied bail.

A 44-year-old woman was charged with trafficking a controlled substance and released on bail, to appear in court in August.

The arrests and charges followed a six-month investigation by Tasmania and Federal police, as well as the Australian Border force.
