Two people arrested as garda helicopter used in high speed chase on M50, Dublin

A man and woman have been arrested after ramming garda vehicles with a car before bringing them on a high speed chase from Tallaght to the M50.

The shocking incident happened on Monday night in the Rossfield Avenue area when gardai were on patrol and attempted to stop the car at around 10.20pm.

They then sped in the direction of the M50, leading to a chase from gardai which included the garda helicopter and a controlled stop on the motorway.

A man in his late 20s and a woman in her 30s have been arrested.

The car had false registration plates and is understood to have been involved in criminality in the Newry, Co Down area in recent days.

A garda spokesman said: "A man in his late 20s has been arrested for suspected endangerment and a number of road traffic offences following an incident in Tallaght on the 9th December, 2019.

"At approximately 10.20pm while on active patrol, Gardaí from Tallaght attempted to stop a car at Rossfield Avenue, Tallaght.

"The car failed to stop and collided with patrol cars before leaving the scene at high speed in the direction of the M50.

"Following a managed pursuit involving a number of Garda units including the Air Support Unit, the occupants of the car were arrested after a controlled stop by detectives on the M50 a short time later.
