Two people arrested after a horse collapsed on a Cardiff city centre street

Two people were arrested on Saturday night after a horse collapsed in front of crowds of people enjoying the warm weather in Cardiff city centre.

The female horse is understood to have collapsed on Westgate Street outside the Principality Stadium on Saturday evening.

A video shared on Twitter shows the horse lying on the ground as two women attempt to bring it to its feet.

Shirley P Wilson, who filmed the incident, said: "In Cardiff, Wales. I am so very sad. In front of the stadium watching this unfold."

Two teens hit, clubbed and stabbed a chicken called Daisy and then set it on fire

Sandra Kvaerneng Stolp from Swansea-based Whispering Willows Sanctuary said in a Facebook video that she was called to collect the animal. On Saturday evening,  she said she was making her way back to the sanctuary with the horse in the back of her horse box.

Speaking on the video, she said: "We were called by the police. A horse had been down on Westgate Street for a couple of hours. It had collapsed on the road.

"We did what we could and we got her up and she's now in the back. She's munching on her hay, it was the hay that got her in the box.

"We don't know how old she is. We're now going to go home and call the vet out."

It's the second time the sanctuary were called out to assist a horse over the Easter weekend.

On Friday, we reported how a horse had collapsed in a Lidl car park in Queensferry and the Whispering Willows team travelled to rescue it. You can read about that here .

People were quick to praise Sandra for rescuing the animal in Cardiff and send well wishes to the horse.

Teresa Kinglsey wrote: "You guys are great. Poor little girl. So glad you have her, especially if she is a foal. So lovely to see her munching on her hay."

Lisa Waddy-Griffiths added: "You are an amazing team, well done."

Simon Evans, an RSPCA officer at the scene, said two people had been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Animal Welfare Act. He added that the horse was due to be seen by a vet on Saturday night.

South Wales Police said they were unable to provide any more information this evening.
