Two pensioners hit by car near Johnstone High Street and rushed to hospital

Two pensioners have been rushed hospital after being hit by a car near Johnstone High Street.

Emergency services were called to the incident involving a blue Nissan Note on Walkinshaw Street shortly before noon yesterday (Thursday).

The two woman, aged 80 and 73, were taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where their condition is unknown.

The male driver and female passenger of the car were uninjured but 'badly shaken' and the road was closed for a number of hours following the crash.

Police are now appealing to the public for information.

The Renfrewshire and Inverclyde Police Division have released a statement which says: "Officers are appealing for information following a road crash in Johnstone on Thursday, 29 October, 2020.

"Around 1145am, two women, aged 73 and 80, were crossing the road at Walkinshaw Street, at its junction with High Street, when they were struck by a car, a blue Nissan Note.

"Emergency services attended and both women were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The male driver and female passenger of the Nissan Note were uninjured but have been left badly shaken.

"The road was closed for several hours as crash scene investigators conducted enquiries."

Sergeant Roy McCarney commented: "I am appealing to people and motorists who were in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with any information they may have.

"In particular, motorists with dash cams, please check your footage as it may have captured images which could assist our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1140 of 29 October, 2020.
