Two Pembrokeshire GP surgeries close after staff test positive for Covid-19

Two GP surgeries in Wales have temporarily closed after a number of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

Both Neyland Surgery and Johnston Surgery in Pembrokeshire are currently closed for a deep clean after a small number of admin staff tested positive for the virus.

Patients registered with the practices who need to access services have been told that they are operating a limited number of services in neighbouring practices and if they should need to see a GP to contact the surgery and arrangements will be made.

The health board confirmed the closures on October, 28 but has said they were temporary and they were hoping to reopen and reinstate services as quickly as possible.

Patients requiring a prescription have been asked to contact their regular pharmacy in the first instance to arrange a temporary supply.

The news comes after a number of GP surgeries in Wales were forced to close after staff or patients tested positive for the virus, including a GP surgery in Swansea in September that was forced to close.

Pembrokeshire has been one of the counties with the lowest recorded rates of Covid-19 in Wales. The rate per 100,000  in the county is 28.6, much lower than Wales as a whole rate of 224.6.

Jill Paterson, Director of Primary Care, Community and Long Term Care for Hywel Dda University Health Board said: “We understand this is a worrying time for people and we want to reassure patients, staff and the public that all the appropriate contact tracing and infection control arrangements are in place to protect patients and staff.”
