Two more PDP leaders quit party

Two more Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders quit the party on Sunday, without citing any reasons.

Khursheed Aalam, PDP’s Srinagar face, and Yasir Reshi, a former legislator from Bandipora resigned from the basic membership.

Mr. Reshi announced his ‘dissociation’ from the PDP during a meeting in Sonawari. He had earlier announced he would join Sajad Lone’s Peoples Conference.

The PDP, headed by Mehbooba Mufti, has witnessed a major exodus of leaders after the Centre ended J&K’s special status on August 5, 2019. Former Minister Altaf Bukhari, once close to Ms. Mufti, floated the J&K Apni Party in 2020 and made many ex-PDP Ministers and ex-legislators to join it.

The fresh resignations comes just days after Arif Amin, party’s young face from Pulwama, joined the Peoples Conference. Mr. Amin was a close associate of PDP youth president Waheed Parra, who remains behind the bars in an alleged “politico-militant nexus” case.

Ms. Mufti’s two close aides, Nayeem Akhtar and Sartaj Madni, also remain behind the bars since December last year.
