Two passenger planes collide at UK airport with nose wedged under wing

Two passenger planes have collided at Aberdeen Airport with one lifting the other off the ground.

The Loganair Embraer 145 regional jet had been parked up on the apron when it collided with the former Flybe Bombardier Q40.

The nose of the former Flybe aircraft ended up wedged under the engine of the Loganair jet lifting it into the air.

No passengers or crew were on the Loganair plane, but those on the ex-Flybe plane were "left shaken", although no-one was injured.

An Air Accident Investigation Branch inquiry has been launched after the incident on Tuesday evening.

A Loganair spokesman said: "A Loganair Embraer 145 regional jet, parked with no passengers or crew members aboard, was hit by a former Flybe Bombardier Q400 aircraft, which we understand was being prepared for departure after being stored at Aberdeen Airport.

"The nose of the Q400 impacted the rear port side of the Embraer, becoming lodged underneath and lifting the right main gear off the ground.

"The most important thing is that no-one was injured in the incident, with the crew working on the ex-Flybe aircraft being safe and well, yet understandably shaken."

Aberdeen International Airport confirmed that the incident took place at about 6pm yesterday.

A spokeswoman said: "The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is now carrying out an investigation."

In a statement the AAIB added: "Following an incident at Aberdeen Airport the AAIB is making initial enquiries, and at this stage there is no further comment."
