A study jointly conducted by the District Medical Office (DMO) and the Higher Secondary National Service Scheme (NSS) to identify post-COVID-19 conditions reveals that two out of every 10 recovered patients faced some kind of health issues.
According to the study report, both asymptomatic patients and those who had severe symptoms developed some health issues. The data for the study was collected from persons who tested positive during the second wave. A total of 3,000 NSS volunteers and 110 programme officers were part of the field-level survey.
A total of 3,000 recovered patients, including newborns and senior citizens, were selected for the study through simple random sampling. Since shortness of breath is a major issue, the District Medical Office will implement an action plan utilising the services of cardiologists. For those who face mental health issues, the intervention of the District Mental Health Centre will be ensured. Anxiety, mood swings and insomnia are among the other conditions recorded in the study.
The details were collected from patients who underwent treatment at the post-COVID-19 clinics in Kollam Government Medical College, District Hospital, Punalur Taluk Hospital, Azheekkal Primary Health Centre and Nedumpana Community Health Centre among others.
The study was taken up by the DMO to make necessary changes in the follow-up treatment.
